Insurance you pay for by the mile, not by the month.
Ride Assurance is the commercial coverage on every private ride you run through the HUM app. It operates under HUM's operating authority, which is why you don't need a commercial policy of your own to start your own private driving business.
You pay for it per mile driven, deducted from your driver wallet as you complete trips. Drive more, pay more. Don't drive, pay nothing.
Ride Assurance is billed per mile driven on private rides, at a rate set by your state. It is deducted automatically from your HUM driver wallet as trips complete. There is no monthly minimum and no charge on miles you don't drive.
Rates vary by state because commercial auto insurance is priced by state. Where required coverage limits and claims costs are higher, the rate is higher. These are the real cost of coverage in your market, not a markup.
| State | Rate per mile |
|---|---|
| Idaho | $0.27 |
| Ohio | $0.35 |
| Alabama | $0.38 |
| Arizona | $0.44 |
| Tennessee | $0.46 |
| California | $0.60 |
| Georgia | $0.99 |
| Florida | $1.13 |
You set your own rates on HUM. Add your state's Ride Assurance rate to your per-mile price and the coverage pays for itself.
Private client rates are set by you and your client, not by an algorithm. Most drivers find their clients will pay well above platform rates for a driver they know and trust.
Because you shouldn't pay for coverage you didn't use. A flat rate charges the driver who ran 80 miles the same as the driver who ran 800. Per-mile means your cost tracks your work. Slow week, smaller bill. No minimum, no charge for sitting still.
Automatically from your HUM driver wallet as each private ride completes. You'll see the charge on the trip in the app. Nothing to submit, nothing to remember.
Your wallet needs a positive balance to accept private rides. You can top it up in the app at any time.
No. It applies only to private rides logged in the HUM app. Your other platform work is unaffected.
Required coverage limits and claims costs vary by state. The rate reflects what coverage actually costs in your market.
No. Ride Assurance is a pass-through. Every dollar goes to the cost of the commercial policy that covers your private rides. HUM does not take money out of it, and HUM does not earn anything by taking a percentage of your fares, because HUM does not take a percentage of your fares.
No. Ride Assurance is what makes your private rides insured and legal. Driving private clients without it would void your personal auto policy and put you outside your state's for-hire rules.
Coverage flows automatically through HUM's app. There's nothing extra to buy, activate, or file. If the ride is in the app, it's covered.
HUM's commercial liability covers you while you're on a trip in the app. Your personal auto insurance continues to apply when you're off it.
Every HUM ride is booked ahead with a client you already know. There's no cruising and waiting on a dispatch. You log the ride, and you're covered from the moment you head to the pickup.
Schools, hotels, corporate accounts, and travel agents want proof of insurance before they'll refer anyone. HUM's certificate is current and downloadable, so you have an answer.
HUM's insurance operates on three defined periods. Your coverage level adjusts at each stage — lowest when you're waiting, highest when you have a passenger on board.
You're available in the HUM app but haven't accepted a trip yet.
You've accepted a request and are driving to the passenger's location.
The passenger has been picked up and you're traveling to the drop-off location.
Limits are per accident and vary by state and coverage period. All figures are sourced directly from HUM's active commercial auto insurance policy. Download the COI below for full policy details.

Coverage disclaimer: The information on this page is provided for general informational purposes only and describes coverage available to drivers while active on the HUM platform. HUM's commercial auto policy provides coverage during Periods 1, 2, and 3 as defined by the applicable insurance standard. This coverage applies while a driver is logged into the HUM app — it does not replace a driver's personal auto insurance, which continues to apply when the driver is off the platform. Contingent physical damage coverage during Periods 2 and 3 requires that drivers maintain their own comprehensive and collision coverage at all other times. Coverage details are subject to the full terms, conditions, and exclusions of HUM's active commercial auto insurance policy. Download the Certificate of Insurance above for complete policy details.
